Shai Hills: Fire destroys Yota Energy Company

On Monday, October 13, 2025, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully contained a major industrial fire at Yota Energy Company Ltd. located at Shai Hills in the Greater Accra Region.
The fire, which involved industrial ovens used for extracting pyrolysis oil from tyres, broke out at approximately 11:04 a.m. Four fire tenders from the Gbetsile, Devtraco, Tema Metro, and Motorway Fire Stations responded swiftly to the incident, effectively preventing the fire from spreading.
According to the GNFS, the fire was contained by 12:55 p.m., brought under control by 8:08 p.m., and fully extinguished at 10:39 p.m. An excavator was subsequently deployed to facilitate the separation of burning tyre heaps during the overhaul process.
Despite the fire’s intensity, firefighters successfully salvaged approximately 95% of the company’s raw materials and a warehouse. However, three industrial ovens and four control boards sustained partial damage.
Two individuals suffered burns and were transported to the Tema General Hospital prior to the fire crew’s arrival.
The GNFS’s Tema Regional Public Relations Office is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
