Dodowa market engulfed in flames

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, a devastating fire swept through the Dodowa Market, destroying several metal containers and their contents. Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded promptly, containing the blaze.

The fire, which started around 1:25 a.m., spread rapidly, causing panic among traders and residents.

Firefighters from the Katamanso Fire Station, led by ADO I Simon Sosu, responded swiftly, with reinforcements from the Adenta and Madina Fire Stations. Their swift action contained the fire at 3:06 a.m. and fully extinguished it by 4:51 a.m.

The fire partially damaged six metal containers and completely destroyed 12 others and their contents.

However, firefighters salvaged over 50 market sheds and several adjoining structures, preventing significant damage.

Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities or injuries. The GNFS has begun an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The Service commended the leadership of ACFO II Osmond Anum, Deputy Director of Operations, and praised the officers from the Tema Region for their professionalism and teamwork.

The Service also expressed its appreciation to supporting agencies for their invaluable support during the firefighting operation.
