Alan’s Movement for Change is officially rebranded to United Party

Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen’s Movement for Change has officially transitioned into a new political entity, the United Party (UP Plus), marking a renewed effort to reshape Ghana’s political and economic landscape.
At a ceremony in Accra on Thursday, October 16, the former Trade and Industry Minister stated that the rebranding represents a new era in Ghana’s democratic journey, one founded on integrity, competence, and national unity.
The United Party will usher in a golden age of business and create prosperity for Ghana, Kyerematen declared. A new era that will promote accountable and transparent governance and introduce a zero-tolerance policy for corruption.
He explained that the decision to rebrand was both strategic and symbolic, reviving the historical United Party name first used by Dr. K.A. Busia’s political tradition before the advent of the Second Republic.
According to Kyerematen, the United Party’s mission is to bridge political divisions and offer Ghanaians a credible alternative to the long-standing duopoly of the NDC and NPP.
A new era that will mobilize the collective strengths and talents of all Ghanaians for national development, irrespective of age, ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.
Party Chairman Abubakar Saddique Boniface noted that the “UP Plus” brand signifies a deeper sense of renewal and purpose. “We are focused on selecting leaders who possess credibility, competence, and vision, rather than merely taking people to lead us,” he emphasized.
The party officially received its registration certificate from the Electoral Commission on October 3, 2025, thus becoming Ghana’s newest officially recognized political organization.
Kyerematen, who resigned from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2023 due to internal divisions and unfair treatment, initially launched the Movement for Change under the butterfly symbol.
With the new United Party platform, he reiterates his ambition – to break the two-party dominance and steer Ghana toward becoming the “economic powerhouse of Africa by 2040.”
