GHC130m allocated for reconstruction of La General Hospital- Health Minister

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has announced that the government has made GHC130 million available for the reconstruction of La General Hospital, during his working visit to the site on Thursday, October 9, 2025.

The project has been stalled since 2020, when the old facility was demolished. Construction resumed last year without a dedicated funding source, after more than three years of abandonment.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the La General Hospital redevelopment project during a meeting with the contractors.

He declared that the government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the project by allocating GHC130 million.

“I have engaged in discussions with the Minister of Finance, and he has given assurances that work will commence on site. To be truthful, provisions have been made for this project. The government has allocated roughly GHC130 million, underscoring the significance of this project,” he noted.

He encouraged contractors to maintain their diligence and assured them that their payments would be processed promptly.

“If you encounter any challenges, please notify us immediately. It is crucial that your employer is informed of your challenges. We kindly request that you inform us of any difficulties you are experiencing so that we can provide assistance.

“Let us work together in good faith to complete the project on site, which will enable us to facilitate your payment promptly. Please be assured that your payment is of utmost importance to me,” he added.

The Minister was accompanied by the MP for the area, Rita Odoley Sowah, the MCE, and several officials from the ministry.

The La General Hospital, formerly known as the La Polyclinic, is a public hospital that provides healthcare services to the community in and around La and the capital city. In 2020, a major redevelopment project was initiated to upgrade the facility into a modern 160-bed hospital.
