2025 World Athletics Championships: Team Ghana breaks national record to reach 4x100m relay final

Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team delivered a historic performance at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan, storming to victory in their heat with a new national record of 37.79 seconds to qualify for the finals.
The quartet of Ibrahim Fuseini, Benjamin Azamati, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Abdul-Rasheed Saminu scorched the track with flawless baton exchanges to claim first place. The Netherlands came second in 37.95s, while hosts Japan secured third with 38.07s — all booking their spots in the final.
It was a drama-filled race as heavyweights Great Britain & Northern Ireland and South Africa both failed to finish, crashing out of contention. In another shock, Jamaica also failed to progress after anchor leg Kishane Thompson — fresh off his silver in the 100m — missed his baton exchange.
This sensational display not only earned Ghana a place in the final but also cemented the team’s status as one of the fastest rising sprint nations on the world stage.
