‘They Act Like They’re Doing You a Favor’ – President Mahama Calls Out Hotels and Restaurants Over Poor Customer Service Attitudes

President John Dramani Mahama has raised concerns about the poor customer service culture in Ghana’s hospitality and tourism sector. According to him, the attitudes of many workers in hotels, restaurants, and tourist sites are discouraging and unwelcoming.

He noted that instead of treating guests with warmth, many employees behave as though they are doing customers a favor. This, he stressed, undermines Ghana’s efforts to attract and retain tourists, ultimately harming the country’s tourism potential and that of the wider West African region.

Mahama urged service providers to adopt a customer-first approach, emphasizing that hospitality and good service are central to positioning Ghana as a competitive tourist destination.
