Nigerian actors might be using Ghana to chase clout - Kafui Danku on movie piracy claims

Amid rising complaints from Nigerian filmmakers about movie piracy in Ghana, Kafui Danku, Executive Secretary of the National Film Authority (NFA), says she suspects some of these public outbursts are more about attention than solving the problem.
Speaking on Hitz FM (Aug 13, 2025), Kafui revealed that the NFA is already working with the National Communications Authority and Ministry of Communications to address piracy.
However, she finds it troubling that some Nigerian actors go online to insult Ghanaians and Ghanaian institutions without providing evidence.
She recalled an April 2025 incident where Nigerian actress Bimbo Ademoye accused Ghanaian TV stations of showing her movies without permission. When Kafui requested proof, Bimbo allegedly said the evidence had been sent in a disappearing message that vanished.
“I think that’s ridiculous… but I didn’t want to stretch it. If they’re truly using us for attention, it’s working,” Kafui said.
