The prime suspect in the alleged murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, whose charred body was found on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, has been remanded in police custody for a two-week period.

Bright Aweh, who is believed to have been the last person Amoah contacted before his disappearance, appeared before the Adabraka District Court on Friday, August 8, 2025.

The case has been adjourned to August 22, 2025, to allow for ongoing police investigations. Amoah, 38, was reported missing on July 3 after leaving his home to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate, and his partially burnt body was discovered five days later at Abuom Junction, near Kwabenya.

The deceased’s sister, Vesta Amoah, made a public appeal for swift justice.

“We implore that justice be served. He was our lastborn, and his passing has left my mother in a state of devastation.

We are unable to eat or sleep due to the overwhelming pain.

We hope that justice will prevail this time,” she lamented. Police have confirmed that Aweh will remain in custody until the next hearing.

The case has been reclassified as murder and transferred to the Adabraka District Court. The CID has revealed disturbing details surrounding the officer’s murder.

The suspect, Bright Aweh, has been formally charged with murder. The Director-General of the CID provided details on the events leading to the officer’s death at a press briefing.

According to COP Yaako, Mr. Amoah was last seen leaving his residence after receiving photos of cash bundles from the suspect.

Amoah did not return home that night, prompting a missing person report on July 4, as his phone remained unreachable.

The subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of Bright Aweh on July 6. Aweh admitted to meeting the deceased and providing him with GHC500,000 in cash during interrogation.

He claimed that GHC200,000 was for settling debts, while Amoah was to hold the remaining amount.

However, the inconsistencies in his account and the unclear source of the funds raised suspicions.

The discovery of a severely burnt body in a gutter near the GBC Satellite area, opposite Comet Estate, on July 9, marked a turning point in the investigation. Relatives later confirmed the remains to be those of Stephen King Amoah.

Forensic searches of the suspect’s residence revealed alarming evidence, including blood stains in the living room, indications of a hasty clean-up, freshly sprayed walls, and an empty can of spray paint.

At a nearby secondary crime scene, police found a burnt woollen carpet, blood-stained camouflage fabric, and a fufu pestle soaked in blood, concealed in a bush about 100 meters from Aweh’s home. The police also seized the suspect’s vehicle, which bore traces of blood. All evidence is being analyzed forensically.

DNA samples from the deceased’s mother and son are being used to support profiling and confirm the identity of the remains.
