Majority Caucus visits residence of late Murtala Mohammed; offers condolences to family

The Majority caucus in Parliament has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, in Accra, after his tragic passing in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.
Led by First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor, the Majority caucus offered condolences and support to the grieving family at their residence in Accra.
Dr. Murtala Muhammed’s passing, along with Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and six others, resulted from a Ghana Armed Forces aircraft crash in the Ashanti Region.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, MP for Karaga, led an Islamic prayer for the late lawmaker and urged the family to find solace in his enduring legacy.
“We are worried here, we are consoling each other, but our brother is in a better place,” he stated.
The visit formed part of a series of national mourning gestures honoring the eight individuals who lost their lives en route to a national event in Obuasi.
The nation is in a state of mourning following a plane crash that claimed the lives of two senior government officials:
Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed. Other lives lost include Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong, and National Vice Chairman of the ruling NDC, Mr. Samuel Aboagye.
The military personnel who perished in the crash were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flight Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah. An investigation into the crash will be led by the Ghana Armed Forces, while tributes continue to pour in for the deceased officials.
The government has ordered national flags to be flown at half-mast, and funeral arrangements will be announced in the coming days.
