Akumaa Mama Zimbi reveals secrets behind her signature headscarf

Ghanaian media personality Joyce Akumaa Dongotey-Padi, popularly known as Akumaa Mama Zimbi, has shed light on the unique fashion statement that has defined her public image for decades. Speaking on the Delay Show with Deloris Frimpong Manso, she revealed the intricate details behind her iconic headscarf.

According to her, the signature look begins with four yards of deep purple fabric, which she combines with another four yards of colourful African print, making up an eight-yard ensemble. On special occasions, she takes it a step further by wrapping up to twelve yards, which she admitted can be heavy but adds to her bold, eye-catching style.

Mama Zimbi also shared how her cultural heritage plays a key role in her fashion, often accessorising with African beads as a tribute to her Krobo roots. Beyond fashion, she attributed her youthful glow to a diet rich in traditional, locally sourced foods, stressing the importance of natural nutrition in maintaining both health and beauty.
