Court fines Mona Gucci to pay Yvonne Nelson GH₵340,000 and apologise for defamation.

Ghanaian media personality Mona Gucci has been slapped with a GH¢340,000 fine after a High Court in Accra found her guilty of making defamatory statements about actress Yvonne Nelson.

The case stemmed from a May 26, 2020 interview on Neat FM, where Mona labelled Yvonne a “slay queen” and implied that her luxurious lifestyle was financed by unknown sponsors.

The court, presided over by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay, delivered its ruling on May 30, 2025, siding with Yvonne Nelson.

As part of the judgment, Mona Gucci has been ordered to publicly retract her statements and render an apology on the same platform where the remarks were made.

In addition, she is to pay GH¢250,000 in general damages, GH¢50,000 in exemplary damages, and GH¢40,000 in legal costs. Official copies of the ruling will be made available to both parties on August 8, 2025.
