The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, has revised the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality, as stated in a press release dated July 30.

“The Minister for the Interior, based on the advice of the National Security Council and through Executive Instrument, has reviewed the curfew hours for Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, effective Thursday, July 31, 2025,” the statement read.

According to the press release, “The Government calls upon the Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth, and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them, as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.”

Due to the escalation of violence, a blanket ban on carrying arms, ammunition, and offensive weapons has been enforced within the Bawku Municipality and its surrounding areas. Any individual found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted. To restore peace, the Ghana Armed Forces has deployed personnel to the affected area.

As part of the government’s efforts to restore peace to Bawku following fresh unrests, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, announced that a total of four hundred troops are expected to be deployed during his one-day working visit to the Upper East Region on Friday, June 27.

According to General Gbetanu, the military has successfully contained the recent upsurge in violence within Bawku and Binduri and is proceeding with ongoing peacekeeping and stabilization initiatives in these areas.
