The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has officially transferred ownership of 17 gold bars, worth $1.7 million, to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) during a ceremony at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.

The gold was seized at the Paga Border Post by NACOC’s Upper East Regional Command officers. Two Burkinabe nationals were caught attempting to smuggle the gold out of the country and have been charged with offenses related to illegal transportation and gold dealing.

Speaking at the event, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, assured the leadership of GoldBod of the Ministry’s full support in protecting Ghana’s gold resources.

The Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, praised NACOC for its swift action and advocated for stronger collaboration between security agencies to address illegal gold operations.

In attendance at the ceremony were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Doreen Annan; the Director-General of NACOC, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey; and other senior officials from NACOC and GoldBod.
