D.Y. Donkoh, a prophet and counsellor, has issued a public apology after being arrested for predicting dancehall artiste Shatta Wale’s death in a prophecy.

Police apprehended Donkoh at his residence on the evening of Friday, July 25, 2025, following widespread dissemination of a video featuring his prophecy, which generated considerable public anxiety and concern.

In the video, the self-proclaimed man of God claimed he had seen a vision in which Shatta Wale was fatally shot in a two-part attack carried out by unknown assailants.

The prophecy sparked intense social media debate and a strong reaction from Shatta Wale, who articulated feelings of trauma and outrage regarding the public disclosure. The artiste charged the prophet with leveraging fear to gain attention and demanded his arrest, threatening further action should authorities fail to act. Police responded rapidly, apprehending Donkoh later that same day.

In his official apology, Counsellor Donkoh said he believed the prophecy was divinely inspired but stressed that he never intended to cause panic or distress.

“I deeply regret the trauma my message may have caused Shatta Wale and his team. Going forward, I will exercise greater spiritual discretion and sensitivity in the delivery of any such messages,” he said.

He acknowledged the emotional impact of the prophecy and pledged to handle such matters more responsibly in the future.
