Asantehene to conclude Bawku mediation by December 1

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has scheduled Sunday, November 30, and Monday, December 1, 2025, for the final phase of his mediation efforts in the protracted Bawku chieftaincy conflict.
A statement issued by the Manhyia Palace on Monday, November 10, indicated that the two-day session will be a crucial step in the Asantehene’s sustained efforts to facilitate a lasting peace between the feuding Kusasi and Mamprusi factions.
His Majesty commended both parties for their cooperation and commitment to the mediation process and urged all stakeholders to continue upholding peace as the dialogue reaches its final stage.
His Majesty praised both sides for their positive approach to the mediation thus far and appealed to all concerned parties to avoid any actions that may hinder progress towards a lasting solution to the Bawku conflict.
The Asantehene initiated mediation efforts in April, convening a meeting between representatives from both factions between April 28 and April 30, marking the start of a new dialogue phase.
The discussions, temporarily suspended, resumed on May 13, with the Asantehene noting progress, highlighting a period of relative calm in the area.
The Bawku municipality has experienced recurring violence and heightened tension in recent months, resulting in sporadic attacks, loss of life, and authorities imposing curfews to curb unrest.
This has disrupted livelihoods, strained community relations, and raised national concerns about the need for a lasting peace settlement. By setting a final mediation date, the Asantehene signals his renewed commitment to facilitating consensus and restoring stability to the conflict-ridden enclave.
His leadership has been widely recognized by traditional leaders, government officials, and peace advocates as a symbol of unity and wisdom in resolving one of Ghana’s most enduring disputes.
